Music Ministries

Music Ministries

CCC has an active praise team and music ministry.

Those interested in the praise team, special music, or other music ministries, please read the information below. Then please see Tammy Smith.

Consideration for Singing/Playing Special Music

The first step is for that individual or group of individuals to complete a CCC Music Ministry Application and return the application to Tammy Smith (Thompson). The application can be verbally given, especially if the individual is known to the team. If the application is in order, Tammy then will schedule a time to listen to them sing/play. Often she will ask another individual to listen as well.

Many criteria are used to consider if a person can sing/play for special music. These considerations include the person's walk with God, their commitment to the Lord, their attitude, their dependability, and their commitment to CCC as evidenced by regular church attendance as well as their musical ability. Exceptions can be made in terms of their spiritual walk for individuals ages 19 and below who are still spiritually searching.

The decision will be made if the applicant is appropriate for special music or perhaps some other type of venue. If they are, they will be asked to contact Tammy with the date(s) that they are available. Tammy will then check the schedule to see if the date is available on the schedule. Exceptions will be made for known performers who are invited visitors.

Consideration for Praise Team

The first step is to check with Tammy Smith (Thompson) for consideration for special music. After the individual has done special music several times, if they are interested in the praise team they should fill out a CCC Music Ministry Application (if not already completed) and return the application to Tammy Smith (Thompson) and express their interest in joining the praise team. The application can be verbally given, especially in cases where the individual is known to the team.

If the application is in order, and if the team needs that type of instrument/voice in the praise team, Tammy will decide if CCC should add that individual for special occasions or on a trial basis. Usually an individual will begin by attending practices for several weeks before singing or playing an instrument on a Sunday. The main reason for this is because many songs might be new and it will take several weeks for a new individual to build up the repertoire.

After an individual has served faithfully on the team for several months, they will be considered for addition to the team.

Considerations for the praise team are similar but not identical to those for special music. These criteria include the person's walk with God, their commitment to the Lord, their attitude, their commitment to CCC as evidenced by regular attendance and membership in the church, their ability to work well within a team, their dependability, and their musical ability. Exceptions can be made in terms of the spiritual walk for individuals ages 19 and below who are still spiritually searching.

In addition to the above considerations, there needs to be a need within the praise team for that particular instrument/voice part. In many cases, other praise team members will be consulted before a decision is made.

Some deviations can be made for some instruments (for example drums).

Specifics for Musical Ability:

1) Sing and/or play with the correct pitch and with excellent intonation, timbre, sound.

2) Sing and/or play with few slides in pitch or be able to adapt to this.

3) Be willing and able to quickly learn new songs and new styles.

Instrumentalists:
1) Must know how to read music or be excellent at improvisation.
2) Must be willing to play music in a range of keys including F#m, Bb, and Db. Capos or transpose buttons to bring these keys to keys of choice like Em, A, and C are in general acceptable.
